The Edgemoor Park Branch first opened on Monday, March 29, 1976, replacing the storefront branch that had been located at Central and Oliver. Edgemoor was renamed soon after in honor of the retiring Ford A. Rockwell (1907-1997), Wichita's head librarian from 1947-76. Mr. Rockwell insisted that the building should instead be named for his late wife, Barbara. The Library Board compromised, naming the children's area in her honor.
When it opened, Rockwell was the largest library branch in Wichita, and the city's first free-standing branch. Rockwell offers both self-service printing and and a self-check service.
Stop at Edgemoor and 9th, then walk east on 9th.
