Read the book. Participate in special events. Show your community engagement.

The NEA Big Read: Wichita is an annual literary tradition in south-central Kansas. The Wichita Public Library partners with area organizations to read and discuss a single book, and coordinates community events that correspond with the book’s themes. The 2019 selection is Lab Girl by Hope Jahren.

The Challenge is designed to engage Wichita’s workforce in a community reading program and participate in keynotes, arts and cultural events, nature walks and more. We’ve put together a list of tasks you can complete that coincides with the themes of Lab Girl, and includes elements from some of our partners.

Why should our local workforce read?

Complete as many challenges as you can from Sept. 28-Nov. 15 using the new Beanstack Tracker app. Happy reading!
