The Library has many resources to help you find answers to your tax questions. Library staff cannot answer your specific tax questions.

Tax Forms

Federal

  • Wichita Public Library's annual Tax Form Distribution Program will begin on February 1 and run through April 15.
  • Form 1040, Schedules 1-6, and Instructions 1040 will be available.
  • The IRS no longer provides the Library with other forms, instructions, and publications that were available in previous years.
  • You can print any form you need on demand from the IRS website. Forms may be printed from any Wichita Public Library location for $0.10 per page.
  • Alternatively, you can file your federal taxes online. Learn more at irs.gov/freefile.
  • The IRS has announced the tax filing deadline and tax payment deadlines have been moved from April 15 to July 15.
  • Governor Laura Kelly has issued an executive order changing the Kansas tax filing deadline to July 15.

Kansas

  • The State of Kansas sends paper tax forms upon request. The Library does not receive any paper Kansas income tax forms or Homestead booklets.
  • To request state forms, call the Kansas Department of Revenue at (785) 296-4937. You can request one Kansas income tax booklet to be sent to your home address.
  • Residents can go to kansas.gov/webfile for free and safe online filing for Kansas Individual Income Tax Returns.

Federal Government

Locally, there is an IRS office in Wichita at 555 N. Woodlawn, Bldg. 4. Its hours are listed as Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (closed for lunch 12:30-1:30 p.m.). Call (316) 651-2102 to learn more about its services or to ask questions.

State of Kansas

There is no local Kansas Department of Revenue tax office in Wichita. For answers about your state taxes, you can call the Topeka office at (785) 368-8222 or visit the Kansas Department of Revenue's website.

Get Help Preparing Your Taxes

An easy way to get help is to call 211 to get ahold of United Way of the Plains beginning January 30. United Way offers income-based tax preparation assistance at a variety of locations in Wichita. United Way will help you determine your closest tax prep location and schedule your appointment. As of March 24, the United Way of the Plains is no longer taking appointments. It recommends filing taxes online for free at myfreetaxes.com.

Tax Scams

The IRS does not contact you by e-mail, text message, or social media to obtain personal or financial information. The IRS does not threaten you with lawsuits or imprisonment. These are all signs of scams.
